What is Mixed Martial Arts?
MMA is the most complete martial arts, which brings together all different styles, from BJJ to boxing. All kinds of positions are allowed and the fights are not interrupted: standing, clinch and on the ground. This makes it one of the most versatile sport; one is able to specialize in just one aspect, however he/she also needs the knowledge of the others aspects. The big difference with others sports is that a lot more is allowed in terms of techniques: punching- and kicking techniques, elbows and knee techniques and submissions.
MMA is getting more popular in the Netherlands by organizations like the UFC and Bellator, but there are also other (smaller) organizations. De fights often take place in a cage, but sometimes also in aring. A fight can be won by: KO, TKO, submission, surrendering or decision.
In the US, Japan and Brazil, MMA is already a very popular and recognized sport and now it is getting more attention in Europe.
Since it’s a martial art with a very broad range of techniques, we focus on the fundamentals during the MMA clkasses. All three aspects (standing/clinch/ground) are practiced and we try to bring them in practice by sparring. The BJJ and Grappling classes are an added value for the ground and clinch aspect.
At Combat Brothers, we believe that it is important to make progress. If you only take the MMA classes, you won’t be able to progress much. Besides MMA, we offer classes in BJJ and Grappling, which are in line with the clinch and groundwork of MMA. If you want to practice MMA you are more than welcome, however it is obligatory to also take the other classes. The primary reason is the fact that just practicing MMA is too complex, furthermore taking the other classes will help you progress further.
